President’s Message

I’d like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony,
Fighting antisemitism with Hadassah partners
In our Seattle Community.

I’d like to make Holocaust education
Happen across the land,
Hadassah members can make a difference
By literally lending a hand.

I’d like you to urge your legislator to sign
The Never Again Education Act,
Spread the word and with your help,
We can make an impact. (click here)

For our sake and for our children’s sake,
L’Shanah Tovah Tikavenu,

Ettie Davis, President, Seattle Hadassah

Advocacy Updates

Upcoming Advocacy Opportunities
By Kindra Cooper, Regional Advocacy Chair

Did you know that Representative Dr. Kim Schrier of Washington’s 8
th Congressional District is JUST HOME FROM ISRAEL? Schrier visited Israel as part of a 41-member Congressional delegation trip organized by AIPAC. Hadassah Seattle and Hadassah Pacific Northwest are working to put together a Day in the District meeting with Rep. Schrier to discuss Hadassah policy priorities including combating antisemitism. If you would be interested in participating in a Day in the District meeting to visit Dr. Schrier’s office, please contact Kindra Cooper here.

Looking to get involved on a slightly larger scale? Our chapter is looking for someone to represent Hadassah as part of the Jewish Community Action Network, a coalition of local Jewish organizations and leaders who advocate on behalf of Jewish policy priorities at the state and local levels of government. For additional information, including the possibility of sharing the role with a co-representative, contact Kindra and Ettie here.

Confronting Antisemitism and Intolerance
By Rochelle Kochin, Seattle Hadassah Recording Secretary

Seattle Hadassah Board Member, Deni Hirsh, and I attended a course on Confronting Antisemitism and Intolerance at the Holocaust Center for Humanity in Seattle on August 13th.  Presenters included Dee Simon, Baral Family Executive Director of the Holocaust Center, and Hilary Bernstein, Bernstein Education Consulting (formerly Executive Director PNW ADL).  The course included a short tour of the Holocaust Center for Humanity’s Light in the Darkness exhibit and covered the history of antisemitism, antisemitism today, and responding to antisemitism and intolerance. Quotes from North Seattle Meet & Greet

My first time attending a Hadassah meeting since moving to Seattle was indeed rewarding. Informal, yet focused on Hadassah in a friendly atmosphere allowing meeting new vibrant women, getting an update through the convention video, and engaging in conversation. —Nava Gazitt

I enjoyed reconnecting with Hadassah members I hadn’t seen in awhile as well as meeting new members and Seattle’s leadership team.  A brief video was received with strong enthusiasm for Hadassah’s medical achievements and its service to a wide community. —Ellen Kret

It was great to meet up with old friends and new at the recent North Seattle Meet & Great.  I was pleased to find that I can join Chai Society and pay my pledge off painlessly each month by credit card. That was easy! —Julie Margulies

Quotes from East Side Meet & Greet

It was a pleasure to come and meet new people who live practically in my back yard.  Thanks to Lora for hosting. —Lisa Kranseler

It’s been nearly 25 years since I’ve been to a Hadassah event.  It was a delight coming here. —Loreen Light

It was great to meet my Eastside neighbors who are also in Hadassah. —Tammy Cohen

Ruth Fast Still Thriving at 99

We came to honor Ruth Fast for her long-term commitment to Hadassah by celebrating her 99th Birthday with an old-fashioned tea.  In Jewish tradition, we have the question: who is honored?  And the answer:  the one who honors others.    We all came to feel honored and privileged to share in this simcha and hear Ruth’s story—in Conversation with Pamela Lavitt—full of life-long Hadassah connections.  Enjoy this 37-second Happy Birthday video taken just before cutting the best birthday cake EVER, that 15-year old Child Life Member, Beloria Levy, personally baked, donated, and proudly carried into the celebration
