President’s Message

Now that the Seattle Hadassah Virtual Gala “The Hearts of Healthcare”💚 is over, I am prouder than ever to be a member of Hadassah!  Our inspiring Gala co-chairs, Beryl Cohen and Caryn Gold, offered us the opportunity to come together virtually to honor the all-too-often unsung heroes—nurses—who are there for us when it counts the most. The nurses theme literally gave us a shot in the arm and we became a team with a purpose:  to raise money for a Nurses’ Station at Hadassah Ein Kerem. In reaching out, we became closer. We’re excited to share that we are approaching our goal of $180,000.

As we look forward to several important programs in May, I feel confident that even more of our members will join together, virtually, for this year’s festive celebration of “Yom Yerushalayim,” a complimentary event marking the 54th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem and the re-opening of Hadassah Mount Scopus.  This program will be hosted by actress Tovah Feldshuh on May 10, at 4:30pm PDT and will feature musical performances from Israeli duo Yonina and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, and special guests Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon, Hadassah Hospital Mt. Scopus Director Dr. Tamar Elram, Hadassah National President Rhoda Smolow and more! This is a wonderful opportunity for Seattle Chapter to connect with National and to hear Hadassah Hospital’s story: It was a time of hope and healing for Jerusalem and Hadassah. Today, Hadassah’s hospitals continue to be a beacon of healing for the people of Jerusalem, Israel and the global medical community.

Locally, Seattle Hadassah’s next program, “Domestic Violence Can Impact Anyone,” offers us the opportunity to learn how to recognize when someone may be a victim of domestic violence and how to help and support them. In its policy statement, “Hadassah is particularly mindful that the Jewish community tends to perceive domestic violence as a non-Jewish problem. However, contrary to popular misconception, recent studies have shown that Jewish women experience abuse from their partners in the same proportion as the general population.” Bring your compassion as you listen and learn. In Hadassah we try to make a difference.  Come and hear about some important tools we can all use.  If we don’t talk about this, who will?

With Mother’s Day good wishes,

Ettie Davis, President
